8 Tips To Extend the Life of Your Skin Care

Using good product care can extend the life of your skin care. Since you paid good money for those products, you want to keep using them as long as possible.

Here are 8 quick tips to save your skin care from an early grave:

1. Note the Date

Anew Isa Knox Microneedling Polisher

Before you even open that new product for the first time, get your Sharpie and write the date on the bottom. And, so you don’t have to think later, write the date to toss it.

This microneedling polisher should be good for a year. The open date (O:) is listed and the last toss date (T:) is written  right on the front.

2. Wash Your Hands

If you’re applying product with your fingers, it’s important your hands are clean. Like, squeaky clean.

After all, you don’t want to contaminate your favorite product with whatever invisible yuck hitched a ride on your fingers. Be sure your digits are pristine before you go digging around in your moisturizer with them.

3. Put the Lid On

Put the lid back on your product.

Tightly.

Even if that product is a pump, putting the lid on will protect your product and keep it from getting that booger-like piece of dried product at the pump mouth.

Gross.

4. Wipe the Gunk

Keep the rim clean.  You know, that goo that collects around the mouth of your product. It needs to go, so clean it off every few uses.

You don’t need excess gunk falling into your favorite product.  Also, keeping those edges clean will also help you to get a good seal when you put the lid back on.

5. Don't Share

I know you get excited about that products you love, but don’t share your skin care with someone else. You don’t want their cooties in your favorite products.

If you just HAVE to share, use a clean spatula or even better, share a product with a pump dispenser. That way you can limit someone polluting your stash of goodies and extend the life of your skin care.

6. Change is Bad

A change in the smell, texture, or color of a product can be a warning that something has gone wrong.  Anytime the feel of a product changes to uncomfortable  – like burning or itchy – throw it out. Changes can indicate it’s time for that product to go.

Your product should feel, look and smell the same on day one as the last day you use it.

7. Climate Control

Your products have been designed to withstand normal temps. Protect them from direct sunlight, extreme heat or excessive cold. Your products do best right in the Goldilocks zone – 65º to 78º.

Think of it this way – if you wouldn’t be comfortable sitting there for hours and hours, your skin care won’t either. We want to extend the life of your skin care for as long as possible.

8. Use the Spatula

You’ve probably open at least one product that came with a handy/dandy spatula for you to spoon out product with.

Maybe you used it the first few times, but now it’s somewhere in the bottom of your makeup drawer.

Using a clean dry spatula to dip out your skin care can help limit exposure to bacteria that cause irritation or infection.

Extend the Life of Your Skin Care

Follow these tips for the best shot at extending the life of your skin care. It will only take a few minutes, maybe even seconds, to put this plan in place. Totally worth the time. And, you may be able to use your favorite skin care right up to the expiration date.
